Menlo Scientific Sponsors Product Development Symposium

The Audio Product Education Institute (APEI), an initiative of the Audio Engineering Society (AES), will host a three-day Product Development Symposium – October 14, 15 and 16 – as part of the online events of AES Show Fall 2020. Menlo Scientific is the sponsor for the Supply Chain and Sourcing presentations.

Mike Klasco is APEI’s chair of the Supply Chain and Sourcing education pillar. The two sessions during the Product Development Symposium will discuss the emergence of alternative Asian vendors to Chinese suppliers. Methods, practices, economics and politics of the hardware, software and development services that go into every audio product produced, will also be topics explored.

In this session, Mike Klasco and Dave Lindberg (DB Enterprises, Hong Kong) talk about these topics with Mark Thomsen, Sales Manager, SB Acoustics (Indonesia) and Tony Tran, Project Manager, Sound Corp (Vietnam), to discuss their perspectives as suppliers and the advantages their factory and geographical location offers.

In the second session Dave Lindberg interviews two veteran audio industry executives with a vast experience dealing with vendors and suppliers. Nick Huffman, Owner of Clarasonic, (Thailand) and Larry Fishman, President/CEO at Fishman Transducers, (Boston, MA) will share their experience and perspectives on what audio manufacturers can look for, and the advantages of factories and geographical locations.

These online sessions take place Thursday 15, 10:00am - 12:00pm (EDT) and are followed by Q&A.

On Friday 16 (1:30pm - 2:30pm EDT), the Supply Chain and Sourcing sessions continue with Dan Digre, President of MISCO Speakers, (Minneapolis, MN) addressing the topic "Reinventing Speaker Manufacturing in the U.S.". In this presentation, Dan Digre will address the perspective of manufacturing audio products in the US, sharing details about his own group of companies and how they manage supply chain and sourcing, domestically and internationally.
